Elyon is an upcoming action MMORPG, plays like a cross between an open world korean mmorpg and a western themeparkโฆI played the closed beta for the 4 or 5 days it was available and the game is alright. It has a ton of problems Iโd love to see resolved and I canโt see the game having long term success in the west if these arenโt resolved but the game will be enjoyable for a short term play on release depending on a few factors. Itโll still likely be enjoyable for a lot of people that enjoy eastern games and can look past the factors discussed but for me, thereโs a lot of sticking points that make it hard to look past at this stage. Looking forward to CBT2 and release to see if anything changes or if these issues arenโt long term.

Bumping up the YouTube algorith with a comment. Some of the things you said in this video, sound like they were lifted off Genshin Impact 1 to 1. Unfortunately time-gating is what retains even the most casual of players, I think ultimately that's why they are doing it, in addition to making the cash shop look really appealing. Well, let's hope the game does well despite those systems, not because of them. More MMOs in the market is generally better for the whole industry I believe.
I played the beta too. If they took the classic version of TERA (same developer) and spent the time porting the engine to Unreal 4 it would be 100 times better than this vapid shell of a game. The only thing I enjoyed was the combat and I'd still say TERA's is better.
Everything about this game is designed to get you to the grinding gambling simulator as fast as possible. Story, fun, exploration, group content, all shallow.
I don't play MMOs that don't have unrestricted player to player trading. There are 2 reasons why an MMO doesn't have trading – the game isn't coded well and they couldn't deal with issues like item duplication, OR the developers want to control your progression like it is some type of a mobile game. To me a developer-controller economy like in BDO or a game without trading… it simply cannot be a good MMO.
Just want to say I've been subbed for a while and kind of just lurked and never commented but I have enjoyed you being honest to the community and giving true and meaningful opinions from a consumers perspective (whether positive or negative) to influence our decisions. Much appreciated, keep up the good work man.
No player trading is the best idea in the history of MMOs. It is not about RMT you moron, it is about securing the market from crashing. It is about preventing a group of assholes from destroying the prices and ruining the game. It is about having players actually playing in order to get money, instead of exploiting the inevitable bugs that will occur in the first months, then sitting on millions and cornering the market. You know shit about MMO economy and you should keep your moronic opinion to yourself.
Totally agree with everything you said. I managed to play until level 37, but from that point onwards things started getting so bad I didn't even feel like logging in anymore.
I also have to add that the story is so poor that if you were looking for a good mmo story to immerse yourself into, you should look elsewhere; you're not gonna find it here. The extremely poor voice acting didn't help either. I played as Ontari and the main dude you speak to felt like a rando who happened to walk in the studio and was given a script to read, no practice no idea what he just got into. Story in this game is just filler to get you to max level in the most rushed manner possible so you can start the grinding quicker.
All of these things are a big no for me too…thank you for an honest review
Lol, I bet they're going to release some cash shop item which increases the amount of dungeons you can do.
Trading was the main reason i liked MMOs. it gives the chance to buy shoppable items from other players without spending a penny.
Love watching your content, you give seemingly very honest reviews.
I'm kind of burned out with the state of MMO's… I'm playing Bravely Default II on the Nintendo Switch till something like Lost Ark or CorePunk releases.
I seen Dvalin covering Corepunk a lot.
I'm hoping you enjoy that game and we all do.
I know your against Crowd funding but you and the LazyPeon should crowd fund an MMO.
It would hit its goal of any amount instantly.
this video has the perspective I wasn't aware, very interesting.
is it worth play elyon?
its Publishers by Kakao Games so no
Yeah the game is great but the skills system for me was overwhelming and is so varied that it's hard to "outplay" someone in pvp because they could have different effects stacked upon effects upon effects.
You got your regular skills which can be changed to have 4 different effects per skill….then you got the rune attribute effects on top of that to add multiple different effects…then you got the ultimate skill system with different effects that change seasonally? I believe which adds even more layers of effects like making projectiles shoot two or 4 etc and this is stacked on top of the two i just listed….it's like one player can have skills that does crazy different things you dont know about so how can you outplay them in pvp when each player has very different builds? Your cc skills might not work on 1 person but work on another or your stun chain combo might work for one but not another…you get the idea…it's really complicated and varied that makes it a guessing game of what skills will do to you when it hits you.
At that point you just charge each other and throw out skills based on your build and see who dies first because you won't know what effects stacked upon effects stacked on top of those effects will actually do to you or to them.
As for a open world pvp – is this free for all, with no limitations, like karma etc? Meaning, if you encounter someone with the sense of mission to "own noobs", there is nothing you can do about it?
Revelation online gave you 3 dungeon entries per week and sold more tickets in the cash shop. They also let you buy in game currency with real money so you can buy the dungeon drops on the market.
Conquerors blade beta let you do 10 battles/day (1 hour of gameplay) before they cut your exp gain by 90%. Plus your gear had durability and finding a schematic to repair it was rare at the time.
''I enjoyed the game'' – proceeds to list off all the things why its bad…should`ve worn your ball gag
To be fair, they created the schedules purely for the cbt. Those schedules PROBABLY wont exist when the game launches. I feel as if though they did it this way so they could have total control over those aspects of the game incase anything went wrong / broke / bugged.
I do hate the rng in this game and because of that rng I probably wont be playing the game too much when it launches, considering SOLO looks fucking phenomenal and PSO2:NG comes out literally this friday.
Any and all new mmorpgs I'm willing to give a go at this point though, because if BDO really is the "best" mmorpg in terms of combat, it's also the WORST in terms of gameplay (grinding for 50 hours non stop against paper thin mobs with 10 hp is NOT what I call fun). I need a holy trinity mmorpg that has dungeons and raids to satisfy me, but also has BDO quality or better combat. Hopefully SOLO will be the game for me.
You forgot to mention how most of the mobs are copied from tera.
LOL, so no trading between players in yet another game, in a genre that is MEANT to have trading. And here we are looking on how the masses bow down and accept this shit, instead of taking the torches and pitchforks up and burn the beaches at the stake…LOL?
If this game were F2P, even if it were P2W, it would still be worth trying. The fact that you will have to pay for the privilege to play then it's going to be a large barrier for adoption, barring some kind of generous free trial.
It's shit
Ya know an mmo is suppose to be hard to make. if you believe what you tubers say but Korea has a new mmo every month I feel like. I starting to think its real easy. Maybe I'll make my own yeah my own WORLD what a DREAM; a Dream World.
time gating dungeons is the most annoying eastern dominant mechanic ever. Why…
The non-existent player trading and the way the AH worked (that you could only sell within certain price brackets) in BDO really annoyed the hell out of me. Far worse than the P2W elements imho.
cash shop will have "dungeon entry" guaranteed
think you said about bdo and competing vs other players but bro there is no competition in bdo it has no arenas and zero pvp node wars are a numbers game and ganking people that are pveing to take there spot is not pvp.. bdo has no pvp at ALL
Video got a bit boring ("we've seen this before", you know what i mean) until you started about the no trading trend. Bothers me to no end as well.
You're wrong, the reason they don't allow you to trade IS because of RMT. Look at Aion. It was slated to become the most popular mmo in history, and it was COMPLETELY ruined by bots. Yeah i'm sure some of it is the company wanting you to spend money on them too, that's human nature corruption for you, but no one wants to see another Aion situation.
If you wanna speak about the genre going backwards, then you need only look towards the player base in EVERY SINGLE mmo. When was the last time you saw people standing around and having a good old chat? never! everyone is just running from one quest to the next, skipping cutscenes and power levelling, no one is even playing and MMO these days, they're just playing a single player game with other people around. People are shit. Back in my day i'd stand around talking for hours in games like Ragnarok Online, now no one wants anything other than levels and power.
So basically itโs dog shit?
Thanks for being honest and calling out the bs. One less game to follow now. Good.
Anytime I see this art style, I automatically associate it with mechanical stupidity.
Eh…time gates all over the place and MTX "conveniences" you can see coming from a mile away.
The game itself looks decent enough, but it looks like yet another MMO that's going to be designed to be as annoying as fucking possible so they can push you into the cash shop.
Will you cover SOLO more in the future days? Really looking forward to this game.
I playe don 9700k and a 760 ( my gpu broke waiting for the 3080) and it ran smooth for me on the lowest settings even in pvp
I didn't like it. To me it was from the start. The starting experience is terrible. It's confusing and chaotic and doesn't make any sense. You go forward and everything spawns or despawns around you and it's way too easy. It gets better after, but not as good to keep me going. The questing experience is repetitive, and dungeons, which were much more fun, are limited. Only consistently fun part of that were skills and the combat system, but it wasn't very rewarding, because it was too easy. I would also call the artstyle boring and inconsistent. The graphics are super washed out. It felt like I was looking through a dirty window. The environment is not very detailed or distinct. I didn't find any vistas or nice looking places. It looks worse than TERA where I took so many screenshots that look great and hold up to this day. I hate how gear looks. It doesn't fit the world at all. In my opinion, it should look practical, flashy, or sexy. But it's none of those, just meh. And after I heard what you you had to say about the greedy mobile like practices, I won't even give the game a second chance. I'll just stick to WoW Classic until I get to play PSO2 NG. ๐
Playing the CBT, the amount of RNG required for gear is stupid. The amount of layers of RNG one must go through to even get good gear is just absurd. Not to mention that when swapping certain things from gear like rune slots, it's not even 100%. You have to enchant trash gear to a certain + to unlock a rune slot (might not even be the one you want). So if you do that and get a bad slot, you just wasted your enchant runes and have to find another piece of trash gear to enchant. I can go on about the trash RNG system but this is just one of it. Something needs to be changed.
This game sounds like the fat chick you f*ck in the bar after all the 10's went home with chads. So like…..after the beer goggles wore off is this game even worse trying lol
