El Elyon, The Most High God | July 3, 2022

Title: El Elyon, The Most High God
Series: Names of God, Part 5
Speaker: Pastor Dan Gill
Date: July 03, 2022

This morning will be part 5 of our summer study on the “Names of God.” This week’s Hebrew name of God comes from the old testament, in the book of Genesis. As we’ve seen in our study, two words are often used to describe God. A couple of weeks ago, we studied “Jehovah Tsidkenu” or “The Lord our Righteousness.” Today’s name begins with a familiar Hebrew word, “El,” a generic word for god. This word could be used for any god so many times it’s joined together with another name to give clarity, like “El Shaddai.”

In Genesis 14, we will hear this name for the first time. But it doesn’t come from a Jewish prophet, king, or patriarch. In fact, this mysterious person has no Jewish lineage at all, but this name for God will be uttered from his mouth first, “El Elyon” (The Most High God), or “God Most High.”
