If you follow me on twitch, you would know I’ve been enjoying this game…A lot. I’ve played for over 65 hours since launch 7 days ago, I’ve played every single day and recommended people give the game a shot. The more I play the more I realize where the game fails in areas and how hard it could be as a new player to overcome the advantages people already have but even with that, I could look beyond it for now. However Kakao have decided in 7 days of launch to make the game objectively more unfair for players that don’t wish to buy the power granting item in the cash shop known as Luminous.

Daum Games was the publisher that promised that Black Destert would never become pay2win, they renamed to Kakao Games after making changes to Black Destert that made the game pay2win. Go figure how they will treat Elyon.
Has there ever been a South Korean game that wasn't, eventually, pay to win?
I will never understand how people do not consider paying for faster leveling, gold, item drops, ect isnt pay to win. if 2 people play for 12 hours a day, one pays for faster farming and they farm for those 12 hours the person that farmed with the boosts on will simply have more. I do not understand how people do not consider that pay to win.
Love the violins for background music
kakao has a hand in it. of course it will be p2w. no surprises there
"You can just sell it on the market for silver" okay lets look at that 1000 C cost 10$ a outfit costs around 30$ and sells for around 300 mio silver on market. this means 10$ ~100mio silver. (forgot that during calculation but you also loos 30% of that silver to taxes so that's that, with Value pack it's just 5 % loss )There are there are 7 armor/weapon pices and 6 accessoires and a alch stone that totals to 1092-1433 billion Silver-> 1433'000 millionen /10 mio = 143'300 $ so yes it is completly pay to win if you're willing to put in over 100k $. You wont be able to even buy the equip cause it wont show up in the market cause noone puts it up for sell but who cares about that kira certaily doesn't cause to him it's still ptw. Sorry dude I think real money items are okay as long as the give you a time boost. I can't play games all day i have to work and i see no problem in converting my working time through money to game time. e.g. what i did in the game maybe took you 100h and me just 50h but that's because the other 50h I was working and couldn't play so i payed for boosters. So in the end we both put an equal amount of time and effort into it. The only ones coping is the guy that doesn't get that noones buying items in huge bulks to convert them into silver so they can "buy themselfs to endgame" that's bs and u know it.
The thing that pisses me off is that you should know that, you play that game yourself so why do you say it anyways. Just because somethings possible doesn't mean it's plausible.
unless its cosmetics only, its p2w…
genshin impact, world of warcraft, etc are all p2w
I signed up for this game. I guess I won't uninstall other games to make space for it.
Jokes on you, they're adding Sword of Thundercock 100, the 99 is out of date and not worth buying.
Kira, does this mean you are quitting this game?
Nice outro mate, is there a link to it anywhere?
That escalated quickly. Are they trying to speed run the game into the ground?
Wait, you can use 1 Luminous only isnt it?1 luminus usage so your point is irrelevant! You cant use all 5 of them.Do i miss something?
Why u All ppl want to be the first in the first month after launch any game???
I played the game for a few days and QUICKLY realized why the game didn't succeed as a buy-to-play game: there's no content, it's PvP focused to encourage people to spend money to buy power advantages, and the PvE aspects are objectively worse than TERA. The game feels like Guild Wars 2 in that the combat is fast and floaty with no real set rotations and a large emphasis on dodging or defending attacks, but without all the amazing things that make GW2 a great, if somewhat niche, game.
The thing that got me to step out entirely is when I realized that the game is a grind of daily quests. There's no storyline to progress, there's no reason to start alts (because they will be permanently behind, as you mentioned), and the PvP is so unbalanced as to be comical.
So all those people who are spending ten hours or more and paying for power can enjoy the game by themselves. I'm going to play games that are actually good.
I NEED TO FIND THAT OUTRO MUSIC!
So your definition of pay to win is different than mine. For me the only way a game is pay to win is if you obtain an advantage over other players that IS NOT OBTAINABLE WITHOUT spending money.
See I'm not racing anyone to get to the end of the mmorpg first. I don't give a rats ass if someone paid to get there faster than me. If they did, gold star for them. My reason for playing an mmorpg in the first place is to enjoy the combat, enjoy the pve, and only sometimes dabble in pvp as a way to break up the grind.
From my knowledge there aren't any achievements for being the first person to accomplish something in the mmorpg, which means paying for faster progression doesn't give you something that other people cannot get.
For me paying to progress through the game quicker doesn't constitute pay to win. I would actually argue that it's a good thing. If you are playing alongside friends and you have a full time job but they have a part time job, they can dedicate more hours to the game than you can, so by you spending a bit of money you can keep up with them.
I obviously have limits when it comes to this shit, but they're within reason.
I'm going to make a moba comparison here to explain this.
Lets compare league of legends with a dead moba called master x master. So in League of legends you can unlock a new character by playing the game for around 5-6 hours. That's roughly 10-15 games. Assuming each game averages around 25 minutes anyways. I consider this to be a decent time gate that doesn't force you into buying the characters.
In master x master you would have had to play their game for over 100 hours in order to obtain a single character. This is what killed their game, and is something I think is a HORRIBLE business practice. Originally when that game launched it was similar to league of legends where it would only take a few hours to unlock new characters, but they got greedy and changed the amount it cost to unlock characters to be well over 10x the amount, which resulted in people mass quitting their game after their cries fell on deaf ears.
So the take-away here is that I don't think time gating is a horrible thing, I just think that it needs to be "within reason". If you reach a point where the time commitment to the game required to keep up with people who spend money on it is unachievable then THAT is when I would stop playing the game and be very upset.
Personally I don't know how long it takes to get fully geared in elyon since I've only recently hit level 40, but regardless I'm not in the biggest of hurries to 100% complete the game.
On other news: Kakao Games is still acting the exact same way as they did before
Korean MMO = Pay to win
lol i doubt anyone expected them to change it after just a week on release.
I am a bit shocked about your drastically change of opinion. also please for the nextime use a neutral title. Many people nowdays rate a game based on youtube titles.. without even watching the video.. and that youtube title reads like "elyon is dead after 1 week" … No its not…
First Regarding with the "Its not worth to jump into the game now, cause the old players are in advantage"… this is valid for almost all mmorpgs… But in Elyon this isnt that drastically. I would even go a step further and say "People who start elyon now, can progress faster with less time, then the people at launch week". Why? Cause nowdays many stuff is available in the marketplace. At Launch goodluck getting your purple, red or yellow rune slot, goodluck get any enchantment stones… Now you can just buy them in the market and safe alot of time compared to 1 week before. -> Its an indirect catchup mechanic.
Second The Luminus thing… It's still WAY to easy to obtain Luminus… A bunch of people got T4 or T5 Luminus first week, without spending a single $ on them. Just RNG… Yes thats how most games works. The Luminus System is a longterm progress/motivation thing and shouldnt be "beaten" in 1 week. neither with money not with ingame methods…. I personaly ignored the Luminus thing the first 3 days i played and even missed the Quests since i just played for fun without the "progress"/"i need that now" mindset… And i still have a T4 luminus myself.. Yes RNG carried. But there is no drawback. Everyone can try gamble T1 + T1 or T3 + T1 (which is 12%) and 12% is very "high" chance when you compare to other mmorgps like BDO… And if it fails u just try again tomorrow. Nobody is forced to do 81 dailys and wait 81 days to get 100% T5 Luminus… (That shouldnt be a thing to begin with, whats the point? in 3 Months everyone has T5 luminus? its nothing special, at this point they could just give u a T5 luminus for login rewards) Its like handing free Endgame stuff… If you are done with your Luminus you are done. there is nothing secret or special behind it to improve it further. Also you forgot to Mention that after the patch you have a Luminus SELCTION box with is the real deal here. Before you have to gamble to obtain the Luminus u want or have to spend 5$. Now you can just select the type you want one time and start to improve that over timer.
Elyon has still one of the most balanced and fair Cashshop i have seen in an mmorpg for a while. The price is good, and the content too. Mount 10$, Dances 1$, Emotes/Stickers/Gimics 50 cents… Its a bit like path of exile shop. Tons of cosmetics/gimmics but way fairer prices.
Yeah, they totaly nerfed the p2w to get people hooked and to get a good first reception, since most channels and magazines will not revisit the game even after such changes and all the praise is out there for future players to see.
Just sounds like a mobile game at this point
Luminus is p2w, yes. But I can't wrap my head around the fact that you said its worse then bdo's cash shop. You can literally buy Best in Slot, end game gear with money in BDO. You can buy a 2%-7% duo stat buff in Elyon. Not to mention you literally have to buy pets in bdo to just play the game + the mandatory tent every single player must buy. I just don't see how a singular item with "meh" stats can be worse then that. I'm fine with saying luminus is p2w, cuzz it is. I just think its dishonest and misleading to say bdo's cash shop has a less p2w structure when its not even close.
of course, if they remove the luminous from the store, its ok again, because then it becommes slow progression instead for everyone… but they wont do that obliviously.
the game is more like: there is a little bit of gameplay in your " LAG "
thanks for the Video
the RIP snowball begins
Idk why but it just doesnt feel right. The game just feels weird while playing it. Its strange.
Players that start later will be forced to pay more to catch up. These types of games are made for whales and gamblers. Look how long archage has survived with these mechanics. It’s gross and everyone should stop playing and supporting this shit.
the game is not even available on my region and as expected this game is already sucking. ill just stick to FFXIV lol
If you invest in this game… you can call it "our game" not financial advice, not financial advisor
7:08 Lines like this are why I watch these videos and have a sub to the twitch.
NO! I listen to you for gaming content and entertainment not which game I should play lol. There’s never gonna be a game that’s some of our ideal without p2w. No content creators influence is that great to decide for me what to play 😂
The irony that Elyon was the advert on this video.
grind for few hundreds of hours in bdo and get sick of piece of gear ? like what base red nose or dim tree like grind for 100m and buy them? is that the sick piece of gear KEKW my man few hundreds of hours in bdo doesn't get you shit and its rng at the end that make go down few billions grind for few hundreds of millions lose hundreds of hours of billions in one click of all the mmo i played bdo has the worst p2w in mmo making item that should stack dont stack in your inventory so its get filled so quickly to force you to buy more inventory slots i know u are scared to get shit on by bdo players base coz they think its the most perfect mmo
Man, I'm really hoping they are not going down a dark path, because I'm enjoying this game more than I thought I would. But who am I kidding, its a Korean MMORPG, their path is already set in stone.
I uninstalled this yesterday, not because I knew the changes had that much effect. Just that actually applying the patch was so bad I just gave up.
Great video, thanks for posting. Hopefully the developers see it and stop the pay to win shit.
I reached lvl 40 got disappointed from the dungeons ( played as healer and ranked last )and deleted the game. I was thinking to give it a chance but after that video , i guess i ll just wait for something new
That spreadsheet 2 minutes into this video, how do I get Luminus that give effects like that? My Lv.3 Luminus is utter trash compared to anything on that spreadsheet. =S
F2P games only care about making the 'whales' happy. That's where they get all their money from.
Kakao lied with BDO, adding more and more cash advantage in small steps. If anyone believed their next game after losing BDO would be without such monetization is naive in my opinion. This is the same story, however much faster. BDO did not introduce their first crap within a week of launch.
Played for like 8h daily for 3 days after launch, game was fun but like you said, all it took was realising what type of game it really is and i did quit because of this. Shame but oh well, back to Black desert i guess and thank god Kakao is not publisher of it any more
They did the same with Black Desert.
I'm glad I didn't even bother with this obvious cashgrab
Your content is as good as your gear. Sami and the monkeys says hi.
But that's the thing with korean games they design the game to be a job to player who play it. It's a work a chore not a game you can enjoy after day of hardwork on your job or school not a game that you can play over the weekend with friends. And the game being released on korea before 2021 just make it true even more.
Yep. It sucks.
